Painting-style trailer for Final Fantasy XVI, day one update revealed

A brand-new Final Fantasy XVI teaser from Square Enix features paintings-like depictions of the game's characters and setting.

Additionally, the company revealed during the Final Fantasy XVI Pre-Launch Celebration live stream that starting on June 19, digital billboards will be visible in Shibuya, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Additionally, starting on that date, a special 3D advertisement will be visible on the Cross Shinjuku Vision billboard.

Lastly, the business disclosed that, despite its best efforts to avoid the need for a day-one update, a tiny update, about 300 megabytes in size, will be made available ahead of the launch on June 20. It will provide the following improvements and fixes:

  • Fixes a control flag issue which can make progress impossible under very specific circumstances.

  • Fixes an issue wherein the game could close unexpectedly under very specific circumstances.

  • Optimizes performance in several places.

  • Fixes some minor text issues.

The fact that Final Fantasy XVI was originally intended to be released on two discs was also acknowledged by producer Naoki Yoshida. The development team, however, believed they might be able to fit everything on one disc about six months before release, so in order to avoid the higher production costs and early mastering that shipping on two discs would have resulted in, they somehow just about managed to fit everything on one disc.

On June 22 in every country, Final Fantasy XVI will be released on the PlayStation 5.
